By 2021 there will be a new connection – a tunnel – between Denmark and Germany under the strait of Fehmarn.
The construction – which is undertaken by Femern A/S, owned by the Danish state – will cost 5,5 billion euros in total.
The new connection is an opportunity to increase cooperation between Denmark, Germany and Sweden in the STRING region, which the Zealand Region is a member of.
The construction itself will cause massive investments which is creating employment and growth in the Zealand Region.
Several organisations are working on ensuring the new fixed link will be to benefit of not just the transport sector, but also other sectors in the region.
