A small country with grand visions
In 1971, Denmark was the first country in the world to establish a ministry for the environment. Since then, Denmark has experienced a windmill adventure and is, in spite of our limited size, in many parametres considered world leading, when it comes to initiatives, improving climate and environment.
In 2012 Denmark made more international energy policy history by setting one very ambitious goal: We need to be 100 percent independent of fossil fuels by 2050. Denmark will face challenges in this area, but we remain confident that our municipalities, businesses, power-supply companies and citizens have the incentive to meet this goal. The Zealand Region has accepted the challenge.
